Zoe Gosling

Zoe is a PhD student at The University of Manchester researching the relationship between modernist literature and the shifts in mathematics during the early twentieth century. Her thesis focuses on the works of Samuel Beckett, Wyndham Lewis and Gertrude Stein, in particular how these authors interact with the developments in set theory, abstraction and logic in the period.

Chris Runciman

Chris is a CHASE-funded PhD student at The University of East Anglia, researching the relations between mathematics and modernist and experimental poetry in the twentieth century. His thesis explores the ways in which writers such as Gertrude Stein, Louis Zukofsky and Charles Olson engage with and reflect upon mathematics in relation to competing ideas about the possibility of universality in politics, aesthetics and philosophy.
